Travel

Berlin is well connected through two international airports.

Arrival by airplane:
If you arrive by airplane, you could either land in Tegel or Schönefeld Airport.

  • From Schönefeld: Schönefeld Airport is quite close to Adlershof. Take S-Bahn S9 (direction Pankow) or S45 (direction Südkreuz or Bundesplatz) and after 3 stops exit in Adleshof. The trip takes approximately 15 minutes. S-Bahn tickets can be bought directly at the train platform. A taxi ride from Schönefeld Airport to Campus Adleshof takes about 10 minutes in normal traffic conditions, and costs approximately 20 EUR.

  • From Tegel: Tegel Airport is connected to Berlin city center through a number of bus lines. To arrive to Campus Adlershof, there are several options. The fastest way is the following. Take the bus "TXL" from Tegel. After a few stops, exit in Beusselstrasse and take the S-Bahn S41 "Ring" to Ostkreuz. In Ostkreuz, remaining on the same platform where you exit, change to S8 (direction Zeuthen) or S9 (direction Flughafen Schönefeld) and exit in Adlershof. It takes approximately 50 minutes, depending on the connections.

Arrival by train:
In Berlin there are a number of stations for long distance and regional trains. The Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) is located in the city center. Other long-distance train stations are Ostbahnof and Südkreuz, which are well connected to Adlershof. From Hauptbahnhof or Ostbahnhof, take S5 (direction Strausberg Nord), S7 (direction Ahrensfelde), or S75 (direction Wartenberg) to Ostkreuz. From Ostkreuz, follow the instructions given at the point "How to arrive from Tegel Airport". From Südkreuz, take S-Bahn S45 (direction Flughafen Schönefeld) or S46 (direction Königs Wusterhausen) to Adlershof. Both ways take approximately 25 minutes.

Arrival by bus:
There are a number of bus companies serving Berlin from other German cities and even from abroad. Most of them arrive at the Central Bus Station Berlin ZOB. To arrive at Campus Adlershof from there, walk a few minutes towards the S-Bahn station "Messe Nord/ICC" (there are signs on the street) and from there take S-Bahn S46 (direction Königs Wusterhausen) to Adlershof. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes.

Additional Information
Tickets for Berlin Public Transport are valid for all the lines (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Tram and Bus) and can be purchased in any station at the automatic machines. The price for a one-way ticket in the AB zone is 2.70 EUR (a small overprice is applied from Schönefeld Airport). It is valid for 2 hours. For further information, refer to the "BVG" website. At Tegel Airport there is a "BVG" desk at the exit, with English-speaking personnel. Adlershof S-Bahn station is at walking distance from both Hotel (Rudower Chaussee 14/Gross Berliner Damm) and Workshop Venue (Newtonstrasse 15).

Accommodation

Participants will stay at the Airport Hotel, in walking distance from the Physics Department. The local-cost contribution includes accommodation in double rooms for 8 nights including breakfast. Lunch and dinner will be provided at the Campus except Sunday where an excursion is planned.
